About One Center For The Arts

Former home to the historic Valparaiso Technical Institute, One Center For The Arts is now the center of creativity, inspiration and community in Valparaiso.

A Little History

Valparaiso Technical Institute (1874–1991) was originally established by G.A. Dodge as a department of Northern Indiana Normal School. After its reorganization in 1891 the school became the largest telegraph and railway instruction institution in the United States, and was known as “The Dodge Institute of Telegraphy.”

Formerly home to the historic Valparaiso Technical Institute, One Center for the Arts is a hub of creativity, inspiration and community just west of downtown Valparaiso.


The S.T.E.A.M Shop

The S.T.E.A.M Shop (stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)  provides education, inspiration and in-house experimentation by NASA certified teacher Alicia Madeka.  Ms. Madeka’s Science Olympiad team has won regional and national awards under her tutelage.

27 entertainment was created with one objective in mind – to enhance the expectation couples should have for a wedding entertainment service. We are a collective of DJ’s and Film Makers specializing in weddings.

Carrie was the first veteran painter (oils and acrylics) to don a brush in our building.

A licensed esthetician with 15 years of makeup application experience Melissa has a focus in wedding makeup, creating beautiful makeup looks that will stand the test of time and tears.

Proprietor Mike Willard is our building’s trusted and talented plumber. Mike is currently featured on WVLP Radio on Monday Evening and Saturday morning’s very popular  “House Rap” show which educates and inspires the public about construction and home repairs with considerable expertise and humor.

WVLP 103.1 fm

Suite G2

WVLP 103.1 FM – your community radio station. The station features folks from Valparaiso playing music they love and discussing issues that matter. On the air 24 hours a day, they feature local programming you won’t hear anywhere else.

Kassie Meeks, Violin Instructor

Suite G4

Kassie Meeks is the Founder and Director of the Northwest Indiana Suzuki Conservatory, after having taught violin since 1996 and Suzuki violin since 2004. Kassie has been concertmaster of and soloist with numerous orchestras, and a member of various chamber ensembles (string quartets & duos; piano trios & sonatas). She teaches violin here during evening hours.

JLR Nail Design

Owner Jordan Ramos paints and fabricates miniscule designs and patterns on the nails of her scores of clients. From the two week no chip shellac manicure, to luxurious and hydrating pedicures, nail health is her top priority.

Painted Palette Studio

Nate Biancardi paintings and other art work brought him the most prestigious Senior Art Award at Valparaiso University.  His caricatures enhance the experience at countless parties, graduations, anniversaries, and fundraisers throughout Northwest Indiana and beyond. Painted Palette Studio also provides art classes for all ages, parties, and events.


Indiana Ballet Theater


IBT is dedicated to transforming lives and enriching the community through the world of dance. We do this through performance, outreach and the finest classical dance education. Founder Gloria Touhy leads nationally respected dance lessons and recitals specializing in ballet.

Chicago Street Theater


With a mission “To connect with the creative spirit of the community through the experience of live theatre”,  One Center For The Arts plays host to Chicago Street Theater rehearsals and coaching.

LimeLights Youth Theatre

Memorial Opera House’s Youth Theatre Program, The LimeLights focuses on the education, confidence, and creative growth of our youth through hands-on artistic experiences. Whether a child dreams of working as an actor, designer, director, artist, dancer, vocalist or stage manager, our program is designed to ignite their desired passions.

Phoenix Dance Studio


We have programs that  allow you to use your dancing skills to give back to the community by entertaining the elderly, the sick or  participating in benefits to help raise funds for  low income families and needy causes
